Creating Baseline and Final Tests

Setting up a baseline or final test

You can make a test out of a segment of Role Plays. In a test, a trainee gets only one chance to rerecord their reaction, so the Role Play cannot be done infinitely. The trainee doesn’t get to see the appraisal criteria either. At the end of the test, there is an appraisal with a score in the form of an assessment report.

There are different settings for tests. Click on the gear icon next to the segment for these settings.

Baseline test or final test

The difference between a baseline test and a final test is that the trainee can either pass or fail a final test. A baseline test only gives a score and is often used to determine the trainee’s starting level before practicing. A final test is often placed at the end of a trajectory, to determine the trainee’s level after practicing.

So, you could choose for a structure like this: baseline test - practice segment - practice segment - final test. You can see how much the trainee has grown by the difference in the scores for the baseline and final test.

Coach appraisal

If the checkbox ‘coach appraisal’ has been selected and a trainee is linked to a coach, the trainee’s recordings will end up in the coach’s coaching environment after finishing the test. They can assess the recordings, give feedback on Role Plays, competences and on the test generally. The trainee will receive this in an assessment report.



If the box ‘self-appraisal’ has been selected, the trainee will see the appraisal criteria after doing the exercise and they can assess the recordings themselves. At the end of the test, the trainee receives the total score and the competence scores in an assessment report.

It’s possible to select both coach appraisal as self-appraisal. The trainee will then receive two scores.

Show total score

If you deselect this option, the trainee won’t get to see their total score. They will see their competence scores.

The score is the average of the competence scores, which are the percentages of appraisal criteria that the trainee has shown in their responses.


Show exact values
If you deselect this option, the trainee won’t get to see a numerical score, just a visual indication of their level, for both the total score and the competence scores.

Norms and group averages

You can set a norm and a group average, both for the total score as for every competence. Both are on a scale of 75-125. The trainee sees these values under their own score in the assessment report. You can find these settings at the bottom.



The norm is the minimum score that you expect from your trainees. In a final test, it’s the line between a pass or a fail.


Group average

A group average gives the trainee insight in how their score relates to the level of the target group. For example, you can fill in the average total scores and competence scores of an earlier group of trainees that have finished the same test.

Setting group averages is optional.
